PRP Treatment for Hair Loss

PRP Treatment for Hair Loss

Platelet rich plasma (PRP) works by drawing the patient’s blood and spinning it in a centrifuge to separate the plasma from the red and white cells. After adding nutrients like protein, the platelets and growth factors are collected from the sample and injected into the scalp where the hair is thinning. Platelet rich plasma stimulate contains growth factors and these growth factors stimulate existing hair and these in turn increase hair growth. Its effect is long lasting probably six months to three years duration. To maintain results, its two to three sessions per year are necessary to maintain its effect.

Male or female pattern baldness or hair loss is a most common problem. It is a genetic problem and PRP role in such condition will be temporary. After some months when PRP effect will be minimized, andro-genetic hair loss revert back to orginal condition. Hence one should get touch up session after few months. PRP treatment is also used in Alopecia Areata and results are good. The major role of Platelet rich plasma treatment is strengthening existing hair and slow the progression of hair loss. It needs always a series of treatment and then touch up for every three to four months to keep its effect on long term basis. PRP treatment also increases hair diameter and thus ultimately volume addition which will give dense impact in the head. This treatment can be performed alone or this may be combined with Finestride, Minoxidil, low level laser therapy or other treatment options.
